Rice Krispie Christmas Trees
Rice Krispie Christmas Trees

Christmas is drawing near, and you will soon be faced with party invitations or family gatherings. Many Christmas parties focus only on desserts, like cookie swaps. Others will give you an option of what you would like to bring. Here are a few easy, cute, and budget friendly Christmas desserts to please any crowd.

One, simple, idea is taking Rice Krispie treats and mold them into the shape of Chritmas trees or ornaments. You can add food coloring to the marshmallows to add the perfect festive pop. Add a little icing, and you can decorate the treats with sprinkles or candy pieces to make them even more special. I will add a recipe below.

Candy Cane Shaped Sugar Cookies
Candy Cane Shaped Sugar Cookies

Another cute idea is candy cane shaped sugar cookies. Most of the time, I use a sugar cookie bag mix from the store. Of course, my favorite way, if I have the time, is to make them from scratch. To modify the normal sugar cookie into the candy canes, you simply add about a teaspoon of peppermint flavor to the mix. Then, you seperate the mix into half. Take one half and place it in a bowl and add 1-2 drops of food coloring. It will turn the mix into a pink color, if you want the batter to be more of an actual red, add more drops of food coloring until you reach your desired shade of red. You then take about a 1 inch ball of dough from each color (white and red). Roll it into a rope about 4 inches long. Take the two colors and twist them together into a spiral. Lay it out on your baking sheet and make sure you hook the top to make it look like a candy cane. They look super elegant, yet they are super easy to make.

Peppermint Frosted Brownies
Peppermint Frosted Brownies

The last simple, yet delicious, idea is peppermint frosted brownies. Again, it can be a brownie box mix or you can make them from scratch. All you have to do for this one is, bake your brownies according to your recipe. Then, let them cool thoroughly. While the brownies are cooling, take about 20 peppermint candies and run them though a food processor to break them up (not into a super fine powder- I like people to still be able to tell it is mints). I prefer the red and white peppermint "startlight mints." I reserve about 2 tablespoons to sprinkle on top. Then, I add the take the rest of my peppermint mix and fold it into cream cheese frosting (you can use vanilla buttercream frosting, if you prefer). Simply apply the frosting to the top of the brownies, and sprinkle the reserved peppermints on top for an elegant look.

There you have it! A few simple, fun, and cost efficient Christmas dessert ideas.
